We also had Sakura (cherry blossom) ice cream at the end with a mixture of fruits. We also got to try Japanese vodka as well as a good few beers. She was very intent on us enjoying ourselves. Her son thankfully could help us translate which kept conversation going throughout the night until we were ready for some blogging and bed; full after food and relaxed after a soak. This is the life.

Delicious food (again)
When we thought the going couldn’t get any better, we arrived to stay at a family run hotel with an Onsen (a Japanese Spa) in Rural Wakayama. We were met at the door and covered with umbrellas directly from the car and were ushered into a modern hotel lobby. We met the Shigioka family and had such a warm welcome – our rooms were lovely, and a bed was a welcome change from a futon. We had use of the hotel spa privately for an hour before dinner which was truly fantastic – we felt like (minor) celebrities!! Dinner was yet another amazing banquet with about 12 courses of the finest Japanese food imaginable; the mother of the family, and owner of the business kept on ordering us amazing food to try including sea urchin sushi, amazing sashimi, delicious tempura as well as roast lobster with melted cheese. Yummy.
